Counties Should Manage Background Checks for Non-Profits and Schools

Many Marin County organizations run background checks on and keep fingerprints of volunteers. Parents and others wanting to help in classrooms submit to checks; often at their own expense. Folks wanting to coach sports undergo similar checks, duplicating efforts and increase risk of sensitive data loss. Let's consider a county-run solution.

In Novato, parents wanting to volunteer in their child's classroom must undergo a background check and fingerprinting.  The cost is roughly $35 and Novato Unified School District stores this data.  Parents and others wanting to coach in Novato Youth Soccer League or Novato South Little League also undergo background checks and fingerprinting.  This leaves multiple sets of sensitive data in the hands of many organizations, and it's fair to say that data protection is not their core competency.

For counties, on the other hand, handling sensitive data and public records is standard practice.  Let's leverage county expertise and have schools, sports leagues, and non-profits perform identity checks, leaving the background check and fingerprinting process with the county.

Can we build in some auto scaling for small images?
|

For the primary images, we are stuck stretching them to fit. This offers a consistent sized image throughout the UI. For images entered into the Ivia body, they will not be stretched. An image will only show up to size it was uploaded at, however we will downscale it if it is too large.

Is it possible to surround small images with a white background so they look better?

It is possible, but I think it would take away from the overall look of the site. I will play around with the idea one night when Zack is here.
